Is there something wrong with your motorcycle? Don’t worry, you’re not the first person to be confused about where that sound or smell is coming from…get clued up with a motorcycle accident lawyer. However, you’ve got the chance to fix your bike up yourself right now, as long as you’re able to find out what the problem really is – this post is here to help!
A motorcycle can take you a long way, both literally and figuratively. And when you know the most common problems that can occur as a bike owner, you can maintain your vehicle in a reliable and steady way yourself – no need for multiple mechanic trips! So, without further ado, here are some of the most common problems your motorcycle will go through during its lifetime, and what you should do.
It’s Gotten Dirty
Motorcycles can get dirty very easily, and in the most annoying of places. Namely, the interior of your bike is relatively exposed to the outside world, and that means dirt can build up quite quickly. If left unchecked, this can cause running problems in the engine, and you won’t be going anywhere!
But, as long as you’ve got the owner’s manual around somewhere, you’ll be able to keep up with dirt maintenance – there should be a whole section in this booklet telling you when and where parts of your bike should be cleaned.
You Need a New Top Case
A new top case might not seem like a pressing issue, but when you’re out on the road, it’s definitely going to be something you wished you’d fixed sooner. As a way to add a lot more storage to your bike, it’s a necessary item for long drives or just simple commutes to and fro work.
And sometimes, the lock can get broken, or the top case itself can come right off the bike when moving – both are huge security issues. And unless you can fix the lock yourself, usually by replacing the tumblers or getting a new set of keys, you’re going to have to get a replacement. If you’ve got your heart set on a certain type, you can find it here; it’s better to work with a top case you know can keep your stuff safe, rather than chance things and risk losing some essential items out on the road.
Check on the Chains
The chains of your bike are crucial to its inner workings, and if they ever get too dry or unlubricated, they could snap, or even lock up the entire engine system. Obviously it’s a lot more complicated than this, but the principle remains the same – less lubricant means more friction, which means more power is required, which means there’s a greater chance of a problem. Keep an eye on your chains!
Your motorcycle has a problem, and it’s time to work out what it is. You’re capable of fixing 9 out of 10 problems yourself, so make sure you keep the tips above and others like it in mind.
