What is eLearning?
eLearning is the delivery of training online. eLearning programs are usually hosted on a Learning Management System (LMS) where participants login, access the content and demonstrate their understanding by completing an in-built assessment. The results are recorded in the LMS.
Why eLearning?
Quick
eLearning is a fast way to train a large audience. Since trainers and facilitates aren’t required to deliver eLearning, a large number of participants can complete the training simultaneously. There is also no need to correct assessments – the programs do this for you!
Readily available
eLearning is flexible in both place and time, meaning participants can complete their training from the comfort of their home, using a computer, tablet or mobile device. Learners can complete their training at a time that works for them, making it the perfect learning method for people with busy schedules (which, let’s face it – is all of us!). Registration is usually a quick process; learners can usually sign up and start a program within minutes. This lends itself to ‘just in time’ learning, where employees can readily access learning as they need it.
Reduced costs
Facilitators and training facilities aren’t required to deliver eLearning, which can significantly reduce costs. The ability to complete eLearning from home also eliminates travel and accommodation costs for participants – saving everyone time and money.
Consistent learner experience
Each facilitator has their own style – their own method of teaching – which can impact the quality and effectiveness of training. Unlike face-to-face training, eLearning provides a consistent learning experience, no matter when or where a participant completes the program.
Easily adaptable to different languages
eLearning can be easily translated into different languages, to cater for a wider audience.
Accessible
Catering for all audiences is stress-free with eLearning. WCAG 2.0 compliant programs are fully accessible to screen reader users and keyboard-only users. This ensures that people with different abilities – including people with visual and auditory disabilities – can equally benefit from the training.
Flexible
Most eLearning authoring tools provide the ability to add videos, audio files, branching scenarios, quizzes and other interactive elements to engage learners and cater for different learning styles. Colours and font can be modified to align to your branding guidelines.
Why Instructional Design Australia should create your next eLearning program
Instructional Design Australia (IDA) is an expert eLearning developer. From years of experience, IDA has created online learning solutions for a wide range of industries, including health, financial services and transport.
Why use IDA for your online next training course? Below are some key elements that put IDA above the rest.
Creative content delivery
IDA is opposed to developing your typical ‘next, next, next’ eLearning. Their programs incorporate interactive elements such as flip cards, drag and drop, hot spots and matching activities to engage learners and ensure they’re actively participating in the learning process. IDA uses photos, images, videos and audio files to provide context and strengthen understanding of concepts.
Bespoke videos
Instructional Design Australia (IDA) creates a range of custom videos to take your program to the next level. Videos can be used to contextualise content, demonstrate processes or summarise learning. Options include animations, doodle/whiteboard videos, vignettes, instructional videos and more!
Infographics
Infographics are a great way to visually represent information, data and other content. They can also be used to summarise key information and can be used as a Quick Reference Guide (QRG) or Job Aid in the workplace after to support learning transfer.
Scenarios – bring learning to life
IDA uses a range of scenario types to bring learning to life. Video or audio files are used to provide real-to-life situations where participants apply their learning to reflect and respond to the scenarios. Branching scenarios encourage learners to apply their understanding of concepts and experience consequences of their decisions in a risk-free environment.
Interactive software simulations
Introducing new software? IDA’s interactive software simulations can be used to not only demonstrates how to use software, but to provide opportunities for learners to perform processes also.
