Why Australia Has The Best Mining Industry In The World

Australia is one of the best countries for both mining companies and hobby miners alike to set up camp and dig for gold. There’s a wealth of ore to be found across the landscape, and the country’s mining industry has gone from strength to strength over the years. The land of Oz has strong ties to the global mining sector, and there’s plenty of regional government support for those willing to head out with a prospector’s mindset.

As such, Australia has ended up with a very strong mining economy, and that can promise a lot to any would-be miner who’s thinking about getting involved down under. And if you want to know more about the various reasons Australia tops every other country within the industry, here are some to read up on.

The Salaries are High

Australia has the highest average salary for those in mining jobs compared to every other country in the world. In 2025, the average stands at over $120,000 per year. And even for those inexperienced in the field, $90,000+ salaries aren’t unusual to see.

Compare this to countries like Canada, where the average industry salary is around $97,500, and you can instantly see that the going rate for mining work tends to run higher.

There’s Overwhelming Support for the Sector

The mining sector in Australia is rather well funded, and plenty of supplementary business has been created as a result of ore, coal, and gem extraction.

B2B services are at an all time high, which makes staffing and equipping a new mining operation incredibly accessible. A new operation won’t have to look far to obtain experienced personnel for their payroll, nor will they have trouble investing their startup funds correctly.

Companies that provide crucial equipment like plastic core trays and heavy loaders operate very successfully as a part of Australia’s overall mining industry. This then bridges the gap between extraction success and/or mining output, and finding the right, high quality materials to meet these targets.

Mining Operations Typically Have a Lot of Experience

Australian miners tend to have a high level of experience in the best practices within the industry, especially when compared to mining companies in other territories like the US. The mining sector in the land down under is well invested, has a long history, and has been an integral part of Australia’s economy for hundreds of years.

Traditions have been handed down, there’s a wealthy tourism industry based on the wealth of mining opportunities, and anyone who works for a mining company is paid well for their time and labour.

This adds up, and ensures that mining continues to be seen as a valued and respected commodity. That allows the skills and knowledge to be passed down through the generations, as well as across into other territories who expand either into or out of Australia.

When it comes to mining, Australia rules the roost. The industry is strong and looks to remain that way.
