Keeping our fingers on the pulse of global industry is always exciting, whether we’re learning about developments on the frontier of a technology or seeing a new surge in an industry that has experienced a lull. However, the highlight of our jobs is undoubtedly learning about companies that are making a positive difference in the world, whether that’s environmentally or directly in people’s lives.
We were fortunate enough to speak to several such companies this month. Firstly, we spoke with UGE International, a Canadian mid-range solar company who are making it incredibly easy for businesses to convert all of their power needs to clean energy. UGE are optimistic about the future of solar, telling us that the technology is finally at a tipping point of making financial sense, even without the aid of government incentives. This is incredibly good news, as environmental fears increase every year; in the next five to ten years, UGE CEO Nick Blitterswyk is confident that the solar energy market will have exploded into a true contender as a leading source of fuel.
Another company with the environment close to their hearts are Fond Doux Resorts, the owners and carers of Saint Lucia’s Fond Doux Estate. This stunning holiday destination is a truly impressive example of environmentally responsible tourism, with visually stunning results flourishing from the company’s dedication and care. The resort’s 19th Century colonial buildings and lush plantation have been preserved out of a genuine passion for Saint Lucian nature and heritage: we took a look at how its founders take care to be environmentally conscientious in everything they do, as well as at some of the unexpected challenges that befell them when hurricane season hit.
Finally, we spoke with SRS Life Sciences, whose purchase of Unistraw has taken the food colouring company into the field of food supplements and pharmaceuticals. We also took a look at the latest models of the Nissan LEAF, the top-selling Electric Vehicle in Europe, both of which go on sale this year. Don’t miss out on your chance to pre-order the LEAF 3.ZERO e+ Limited Edition for some of the best of the best in electric vehicle technology – only 5,000 will be released in Europe!
