Being in business can be a lot of fun. Not only do you get to be your own boss and be in charge of your own future, but it can feel super important too. Regardless of what it is that your business does, or the industry that you’re in, there are always certain things that you should make sure that you do and don’t do. As much as you may feel like it’s your company and you can run it however you like, it is important to make sure that you’re a good business owner. So, if you want to make sure that you get it right, here’s what not to do.
Yell At Your Employees
First of all, you want to make sure that you’re kind to your employees. Because yelling at anyone in life isn’t nice. And just because your staff work for you, it doesn’t mean that you can be rude to them. Plus, if you want to ensure that your staff are happy and that they’re able to work to their most productive levels, it’s important that you’re kind, nice and humble around them. As much as you feel like you need to shout, just don’t!
Set A Bad Example
You should also make sure that you lead by example. And it’s important that that example is a good one. If you want to make a great impression on your staff and ensure that they stay with you, and not leave and give you a high staff turnover, you want to make sure that you’re setting a good example. There are lots of great examples you can set for your employees, and it’s important to be a good boss and likeable, so make sure that you follow them.
Get Into Trouble
Next, you should then do what you can to stay out of trouble. This may seem like an obvious one, but it can be really bad for your company. Whether you’re in business or personal trouble, it’s always going to look bad on your business. Even if you have to hire a defense attorney because you need one, you’re going to want to do what you can to avoid that. Needing a lawyer to get you off is always bad for business.
Get Into Debt
Then you may want to think about doing what you can to avoid business debt. We all know that we want to make sure that we avoid getting into debt in life, but when you have your own business, it’s easy to feel as if it’s not your debt. But it still is. Running up debts under your company’s name is never a good idea. It’s still money that you need to pay off, and it can put a lot of strain on your business operations too.
Go AWOL
And finally, you should also aim to ensure that you’re always around. Yes, you do have staff, and they can probably run a lot of the day to day operations themselves, but they still need you around. Plus, you it’s your business, after all, so you’re going to want to make sure that you can pull your own weight.
